Hiking
Each hiking destination is a success in its own right
The roots of wanderlust
Wanderlust is something we wholeheartedly embrace here in Biosphere Reserve Salzburger Lungau. Countless beautiful mountains over 2000 m high, even a few 3000ers amongst them, as well as more than 60 clear alpine tarns amid a healthy, pristine world of nature, animals and plants, the air clean and the water pure! 13 side valleys lead to some of the most beautiful hiking destinations and mountain summits imaginable – if you want to save some strength on your way into the valleys, you might want to take advantage of the valley bus for the first part of your adventure. The mountain lifts also operate in summer, giving the start of your hikes a welcome boost and all mountain lovers an unbeatable opportunity to take in the views.

FranJo’s insider tips for doggies
For puppies that want to splash around in the water and go fetch a stick, we highly recommend the Murinsel in St. Michael. It’s a nice walk, yet not too far from the Liftplatzl. In other words, a great tip no matter what the day, no matter what the weather – for all paw sizes.
The Bird Theme Path in St. Michael is also certain to appeal. Along the theme path on the Mühlsteig, at the foot of the Speiereck, you will find lots of interesting information and great spots for mom and dad – while puppy is certain to prick up his ears, listening to the twittering and chirping of his small feathered friends.
Everyone is guaranteed to be dog-tired after completing a full hiking tour of the Fanningberg – though the route itself isn’t particularly tough. Your hike starts and finishes at the lift car park, while the reward for all your efforts includes the natural beauty of the “Fanningberger Aibl”, along with views of the mountain landscapes as well as Weisspriachtal.
